Wharton: An Iron-Mining Past & Civic-Minded Future

Wharton is a small borough covering roughly two square miles in Morris County. Peppered with gentle slopes, textured landscaping, winding roads, and flashes of water, it embraces the majesty of the highlands and the whimsy of seasonal change.

The foliage is especially vibrant, turning gold, red, and copper during autumn after a summer showcase of thick, green vegetation. Backed by canals and parks, and near the Wharton State Forest, this town is particularly attractive to those who love to nurture nature or simply crave an escape from the business of bigger cities.

Culturally, the borough adopts a community-centered philosophy, focusing on civic life, local government, and neighborly ideals while keeping the past close at heart. Historically known for iron-mining, the town was named after Joseph Wharton, a pioneer of America’s metal industry. He built his fortune in iron, steel, and nickel, made the US less dependent on foreign metals, and focused heavily on philanthropy: In 1881, he donated $100,000 to the University of Pennsylvania to found a “school of finance and economy” to teach students the practical elements of business and help them succeed.

Wharton: Full of Weevils, Wasps, and Web-Spinners

The climate and natural surroundings of this city welcome a tapestry of troublemakers, irksome invaders, and petulant pests. At Kapture, we understand why mice migrate into your kitchen, how termites destroy your house, what makes ticks tick, what keeps beetles thriving, and so much more!

Mice are especially problematic in both residential and commercial properties. They’re exceptional breeders, which means even one mouse pair can quickly turn into an extended family. Their reproductive talents are, perhaps, only overshadowed by their digestive ones: A single mouse can produce up to 75 droppings a day. Termites reproduce with extraordinary speed as well, and they work quickly and efficiently, methodically dining on your doorways and feasting on your floor joists. They communicate danger to one another by banging their heads against tunnel walls, allowing them to evade harm.

Ticks don’t eat your home . . . but they do dine on you! They’re not averse to being patient, either; ticks can survive for up to two years without feeding, biding their time until a person or animal gets within reach. These parasitic disease-spreaders can infest carpet, rugs, pet beds, crawl spaces, underneath decks, and more.

Beetles can also infest various areas of your home. They don’t particularly want to, but they’re drawn indoors by stored food, wool, silk, and feathers. Some species can shut down their metabolisms and survive months with minimal oxygen. This allows them to live through food shortages, extreme temperatures, and being trapped in sealed containers.

At Kapture, we wrangle Wharton’s pests, ensuring your home stays critter-and-creature-free!
