Wayne welcomes pests of all kinds, unwittingly inviting rats, roaches, mites, mice, and more onto lush grounds, thriving nature, and cozy properties.

Cockroaches would win Survivor each season if ever allowed to participate; they’re notorious for flourishing in all kinds of environments, surviving for weeks without food, and evading danger by changing their behaviors, hiding in dark spaces, and running away (they can run three miles an hour). Their innate talents, coupled with their thriving reproduction rates, make them among the most common infestations.

Pantry moth problems start in food processing plants and grocery stores before entering your home; they’re often packaged with rice, pasta, grains, and other dried goods. Although these minuscule creatures are hard to spot, webbing is a sign of larvae. Adult pantry moths don’t eat; their sole job is to reproduce, and they might be seen flying around your Wayne kitchen or nearby rooms. Like other moths, they’re drawn to lights, making them more visible at night.

Crickets are heard more than seen. The males chirp by rubbing their wings together; they do this to attract mates, warn of predators, and communicate with each other. While there’s no proof that they chirp to keep people up at night, there’s no proof that they don’t, either. Despite being irritating insects, they’re linked to morality in pop culture; Jiminy Cricket acted as the voice of reason in Disney’s Pinocchio.

Spiders are among the most feared creatures on earth; the 1990 movie Arachnophobia capitalized on this fear by telling the tale of a small California town facing a deadly invasion of venomous eight-legged killers. The film was so memorable that researchers from the University of California named a worm species after the film’s star, Jeff Daniels. This worm infects tarantulas, one of the only two worm species to do so.

A fear of hornets is somewhat common as well; this phobia is called spheksophobia and causes dizziness, sweating, nausea, a racing heartbeat, and a surge in fight-or-flight adrenaline when spotting these flying fiends. And, perhaps for good reason! These wasps are quite large, always angry, and effective hunters. They prey on flies, caterpillars, and bumblebees, among other things. They can also sting repeatedly; their stingers stay attached, which means they’re not one-and-done stabbers.
