How to Get Rid of Spiders
It has come to our attention that there is a crazy myth floating around saying pest control companies—like our team of experts at Kapture—don’t know how to get rid of spiders. We are not altogether sure where the myth originated or why it has stuck around for so long but we have heard this statement at least a handful of times from at least a handful of different people.
But what is the truth?
Do Pest Control Companies Know How to Get Rid of Spiders?
Yes, of course we know how to get rid of spiders! Our Kapture Pest Control professionals can and do treat spiders successfully all of the time. If we can eliminate a roach infestation, creatures that have been around since the dinosaurs and are immune to toxic radiation, then we can certainly handle a spider problem.
The process is not complicated and you don’t even have to be pest control experts—like us—to do it. Anyone can learn how to get rid of spiders effectively if they take the time and effort to meticulously complete these 5 steps:
Step #1: Define the “Spider Problem”
You need to know what a spider problem is in order to treat it. A spider problem will look different from home to home, depending largely on the level of comfortability you have around spiders. In a nutshell, a typical spider issue occurs when they are making you uncomfortable enough to make you want to know how to get rid of spiders.
Keep in mind: having zero spiders in your home is probably not realistic and in doing so, you’re actually removing a natural form of pest control—those spiders keep the disease-ridden pests at bay!
Step #2: Find the Source
If you have a congregation of spiders in your home or on your property, that means there is likely a nesting space somewhere. These nesting sites are usually in the obvious places like crawlspaces, basements, attics, sheds, etc.
We (or you) will need to find and identify these areas in order to get rid of spiders for two reasons. First, so that we can remove the bulk of the spiders, and second so that we can put an end to the breeding taking place there. The first step will drastically reduce the number of spiders now and the second will drastically reduce the number of spiders in the future. This is how to get rid of spiders on a foundational level.
Step #3: Remove & Treat
If you’re learning how to get rid of spiders and treating the issue yourself, it can be useful to have a shop vac of some kind for removing the spiders and an effective and safe spider repellent for treating the area.
We’re pros at how to get rid of spiders so if we’re handling the issue, we will find the source of the spiders and eliminate them. All of them. Then we will treat the area with a specialized residual chemical treatment. This should immediately reduce the number of spiders you are encountering daily. But we don’t stop at the nest. We walk around high spider traffic areas and remove all stray spiders and webs getting the area and the property back to a base zero.
In determining how to get rid of spiders and treating the problem yourself, you will want to do that step as well to maximize the effectiveness of your efforts.
Step #4: Check for Entry Points and Remove Temptation
Once you’ve figured out how to get rid of spiders and remove the bulk of them, you will need to do some prep work by sealing all entry points and removing the temptations for them to return. Most entry points are small but are the same entry points you would look for with ants or any other pest.
This usually includes places like:
- Around window frames
- Around garage doors
- Dryer vents
- Utility line entries
Removing temptation requires getting rid of the things that spiders are looking for as you inspect the area. Most spider problems occur in places with lots of other bug activity. After all, spiders eat bugs and if they are happy in your home it’s because they are eating well—meaning while you’re learning how to get rid of spiders, go ahead and study up on other pests too. Removing other bugs from your home will in turn remove more of the spiders.
This includes the outdoor bugs too! Leave your exterior lights off when possible as many night bugs are drawn to the light. And the spiders who eat the night bugs…are drawn to them—resulting in a porch full of spiders! This is NOT how to get rid of spiders.
Step #5: You’ve Learned How to Get Rid of Spiders. Now Repeat!
Spiders, like most pests, are not a pest that can be removed with one treatment effort. When figuring out how to get rid of spiders, it’s important to know that spider prevention and removal is an ongoing process. If you’re using one of our Kapture Pest Control maintenance programs we will return on a regular schedule to remove, treat, and seal. The spiders will try to return, but if we’re doing our jobs right (which we typically do) then their numbers will decrease the longer we treat them. You will see fewer and fewer spiders until you stop seeing any at all, proving that our Kapture experts know how to get rid of spiders.
So to prove the myth wrong—YES, we know how to get rid of spiders! And so can you, if you’re brave and consistent enough to follow these 5 steps on how to get rid of spiders.
