The morning air is crisp. The days are getting shorter. The trees are revving up for their annual color show. This can only mean one thing – it must be September in New Jersey. Typically this is the time of year we emphasize the need for mice prevention. While the cooler air may be refreshing for us, for mice that cold air means it’s time for them to find somewhere safe to hide until the warm weather returns in the spring. If you aren’t careful, that safe place can and oftentimes is a residential home. Your residential home.
This year it is just as important to prevent and treat for mice, but this year is not a typical year. Many homeowners that we speak to understand the need to treat for mice but wonder if it’s safe given everything that’s going on in the world. We’ve received a lot of questions about this lately and in an effort to help you make the best and safest decision for your family we are to help clear up any confusion.
Mice Prevention Question #1: Are mice really that dangerous?
Mice are not evil and they are not entering your home to hurt you. However, having mice in your home is not safe for you, your family or the stability of your home. Mice live dirty lives. They crawl around in all sorts of FILTHY places and more often than not they carry diseases. Even healthy, adorable looking mice can be covered in dozens of diseases that can be transferred to humans almost without them knowing.
Not to mention the health concerns with mice droppings (because mice aren’t potty trained) and the damage they can cause by chewing through drywall, insulation or even wiring. Feral mice ARE dangerous and they have no place in your home.
Mice Prevention Question #2: Is it more dangerous to have a human stranger in my home this year because of the pandemic?
This is a great question. We are all trying to distance ourselves from unnecessary human contact. The important thing to remember here is that the experts at Kapture Pest Control are aware of the risks and are working hard to mitigate those risks as much as possible. Mice are not.
When we enter your home we are in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and alone. We have gloves, and masks and wear them for the entire duration of your service. In addition to that there is no contact necessary with the homeowner. No paperwork, no signing anything, and no need for close personal contact.
If you prefer you could have your entire home treated and never see us for any longer than it takes to open your front door.
Also when treating for mice we will be where the mice are likely to be. This typically means basements, attics, and crawl spaces. These are places you likely don’t spend too much time, so you can rest easy knowing not only are we socially distancing and wearing PPE but also that we won’t be lounging on your couch or sharing a cup of tea. We will be crawling around in your dark, damp crawlspace, ensuring you can safely quarantine without the company of unwanted critters.
Mice Prevention Question #3: Is it better to just have the exterior of our home treated for mice, rather than the interior?
Let’s get real for a moment. If you are having your home treated for mice by a professional it is usually because you’ve already seen mice inside. It is also likely that you’ve tried other treatment methods yourself before looking into having a professional come out.
It is entirely possible that we can treat only the exterior of your home, if that is what you prefer. And that will be better than no treatment at all. However; whenever we treat only the exterior of your home we run the risk of sealing the target critter inside. This will not solve your problem. In fact, after a few generations of mice (which are quick) – you will have a much bigger problem.
When treating the exterior and interior together we can ensure that we’re rid of your home of mice both inside and out; all while ensuring that they cannot find their way back in.
It’s a scary time right now. We will respect your decision to treat outside only, if you so chose, but we want you to have all the information to make an informed decision. The risk for mice is real. The risk of Covid is real. The difference is we are mitigating the risk we pose – the mice aren’t. Contact us for a free no-obligation phone consultation and quote.
