Bogota is a small borough in Bergen County, nestled along the Hackensack River and located just outside New York City. This beloved town was officially established in 1894 when Bergen County engaged in its “boroughitis” period and incorporated various municipalities. While the town’s name is widely believed to be inspired by Columbia’s capital, historians debate this. Today, the city is known for its tight-knit community, where friends gather to celebrate birthdays or enjoy end-of-the-workweek happy hours. Local restaurants, family-friendly parks, nearby hiking and biking trails, cultural diversity, and easy access to Manhattan make the area appealing to commuters, parents, and outdoor lovers.

Their colonies thrive in summer and can contain thousands of workers living together towards a common goal. Unlike other types of wasps, yellow jackets live underground, often building nests in abandoned rodent burrows.

Still, it’s not unheard of for a waterbug to get stuck on land and find its way into a bathroom or kitchen. Unlike many other pests, waterbugs deliver a painful bite and are known to sink their mouths into the toes of swimmers splishing and splashing in lakes and ponds.
