When you think of pests that you absolutely want to keep out of your home, bed bugs definitely are at the top of the list. And they are at the top of the list of pests that are tough to get rid of as well.

But why is their population so hard to keep under control? Don’t they have any predators? Does no one want to mess with these bad bugs?

Well, they actually do have a few natural predators but they aren’t bugs that you would want hanging around your home anyways for natural pest control purposes.

But if you are curious about what types of bugs have it out for your foe the bed bug, we’ve got you covered.

Bedbug Predator #1- Cockroaches

bed bug predatorCockroaches are a pest that will pretty much eat anything. And that includes bedbugs and their eggs. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they go after them specifically.

They are omnivores and they will eat anything that they come across in your home. So if this means that they come across those dreaded bedbugs then they will gobble them up along the way. However, this isn’t going to be the only thing that they are living on. There are plenty of other things in your home that they will be feasting on.

And they are definitely not a pest that you want in your home for bedbug control. They are known to carry bacteria around that can cause salmonella, staphylococcus, and streptococcus. And can also carry intestinal diseases as well. These risks are not worth the small number of bedbugs that they may rid your home of.

Bedbug Predator #2- Masked Hunter

The Masked Hunter sounds like it would come in and save your home from bed bugs right? Well, we wouldn’t get too comfortable around this pest. While it is a predator of bedbugs, they are a ting pest. And not one you would want around your home.

This insect is usually found in the Eastern and Central parts of the United States. They are dark brown to black in color and about ¾ of an inch long with wings.

They get their name not from saving homes from bedbugs but from them carrying dust and debris on their body to camouflage themselves.

While they do feed exclusively on bedbugs, they aren’t a good solution to your bedbug problem because of their biting. Their bite is said to be as painful as being bitten by a snake. We don’t know about you but the risk doesn’t match up with the reward here. There are much better ways to get rid of bedbugs

Bedbug Predator #3- Pharoah Ant

A Pharoah ant may not be one of the varieties of ants that first come to mind when you think of these pests. But, these are a type of ant that likes to feast on bedbugs.

Even though they are small at only around 1/16 of an inch, they can eat so many things in your house other than bedbugs making them quite a nuisance. They are known to eat everything from food to clothing.

And these types of ants only nest indoors which isn’t good for homeowners. And much like their prey the bedbug, they are known to  reproduce very quickly.

So while they may snack on a few bedbugs, they will feast on some other things in your house too like other ants. And they are also known for transmitting diseases as well.

How To Get Rid of Bedbugs

So, if all of these bedbug predators obviously do more harm than good, what is the best solution to getting rid of bedbugs for good?

If you suspect that you have bedbugs from bites you can look for physical evidence of their shells or casings by looking around the edge of your mattress, your baseboards, couches, curtains, and small crevices.

Once you have decided you do have a problem, the best thing to do is to act swiftly. Bedbugs reproduce at an alarming rate, and no one likes the thought of those things crawling around their home.

Your local pest control expert can help you handle your bedbug problem in several ways. There are heat options, cryo-options if you prefer something more eco-friendly. Or there is a more fast-acting chemical option.

Whichever option you choose is right for you and your home, your bedbug problem can be handled much quicker than letting a natural predator try to do their thing.
