Ants are among the most common infestations. These itty-bitty invaders come in a variety of species, including odorous ants, pavement ants, sugar ants, and carpenter ants. Earwigs invade in waves, multiply quickly, and destroy plants, but they do have some commendable qualities. Interestingly, they’re one of the only insects to demonstrate maternal care; mothers guard and clean their eggs and defend their young, something unheard of in the non-social bug world. In other words, you don’t want an earwig as a pest, but you may want one as a babysitter.
