Do you see the copper mesh? In this case we used the copper mesh because we identified mice entering Dhaval’s home in Old Tappan in between the cables.
How did we know?
Our inspection showed that there were rub marks from mice around the cables and leading up the wall to the cables.
Mice tend to use the same runways over and over again. Their fur is oily and greasy and therefore leaves these greasy rub marks around the place they frequent.
Dhaval called us on Thursday because he was hearing footsteps in between his first and second floor. He had checked his outside for entryways to his home, but couldn’t find anything.
We came out Friday morning to take a look at his home in Old Tappan. Our first intuition was that this would be a mice issue because they’re really the only thing that is small enough to fit in between floors, but also large enough for you to hear footsteps.
During our inspection we found mice activity in the basement and attic. We set up a trapping and baiting program right in their nesting areas to eliminate them quickly.
The inspection also identified this entry point around the a/c lines and we sealed it up with the copper mesh. These lines did lead into the basement and also up in the attic so it explains the activity we found in both the basement and in the attic.
While the holes look small, mice can fit through very small gaps. In general, they are able to squeeze through a hole as small as a dime.
Covering holes is a good practice to prevent general pest activity in your home as well.
I followed up with Dhaval in Old Tappan on Wednesday. He let me know that we had quickly caught a mouse in the drop ceiling. At that point the footsteps stopped and he hasn’t heard anything anymore.
