Waldwick
Professional Pests Control

Waldwick is a small Bergen County town that began as a commuter hub for New York City. It’s since evolved into its own identity, blossoming as a safe, family-centered, and community-oriented escape from larger, more action-packed metropolises. Pests enjoy the landscape and often find their way into homes and buildings.

Waldwick’s Wondrous Woodlands and Small-Town Charm

Waldwick is a small Bergen County borough nestled on the north end of New Jersey. Known for its forested pockets, tight-knit community, local pride, and transportation-friendly options, it’s one part commuter hub and one part suburban haven. Historically, it was born along the rails, coming into its own on the backs of hickory ties and whistling locomotives. Like many nearby towns, it was intended to stay in New York City’s shadow,  somewhere busy professionals could go upon the ding of the closing bell. Today, it doesn’t hog the spotlight in industry, nightlife, or arts and culture, but it does offer a family-centered atmosphere, safe streets, and small-town charm. With a population of roughly 10,000 people (compared to Manhattan’s 1.6 million), it’s less Big Apple and more apple seed.

Even so, residents enjoy a variety of shopping, dining, and recreational options. Downtown offers a range of eateries, cafes, mom-and-pop shops, and local businesses, while parks, playgrounds, and open space provide room to run, play, and explore. Youth sports, school events, and volunteer organizations are especially popular, helping define the town as one of community, camaraderie, and civic duty.

Historical Headaches and Modern-Day Menaces

Like the surrounding towns, Waldwick draws a range of unwanted Garden State guests, including species with long histories of flourishing.

Crickets might be pests today, but they were pets in the past and kept as melodic companions in ancient China. During the Tang Dynasty, cricket fighting took place in enclosed arenas, pitting male crickets of equal size against each other. Popular among members of the aristocracy, it eventually spread into common life, becoming ingrained in communities across the nation.

Beetles, like cats, were worshipped by ancient Egyptians. The scarab beetle, in particular, was believed to symbolize rebirth and the sun’s cycle. Ladybugs, a type of beetle, were showcased in European folklore and, to this day, are believed to represent luck and good fortune. Literature embraced beetles, too; Edgar Allen Poe wrote The Gold-Bug, a tale of a golden beetle, obsession, madness, and buried treasure.

Mice are among the most well-traveled species, often hitching rides on ocean-crossing ships. As civilization expanded, so did the prototypical house mouse, eventually becoming a symbol of suburban living. Partly because of their interactions with people, mice are prominently featured in literature, fables, and tall tales. From Aesop’s “The Lion and the Mouse” to Mickey himself, they’ve played a role in some of humanity’s most important works and creations.

Waldwick wasps are irritating invaders, yet also insects that seem to garner some respect. Certain Native American tribes regarded wasps as a symbol of order and strategic defense; others perfected their pottery techniques by studying wasp nests. Ancient farmers observed wasps as well, watching them to figure out effective pest-control methods.
