Meddlesome Mice, Firewood Lurkers, and Ant Antics

This town is fair game for pests from all walks and crawls of life. With its luring landscaping, diverse climate, and suburban flair, it invites a spectrum of irksome invaders. 

Mice are common visitors and proof that appearances can be deceiving; they’re cute and furry, but also notorious for disease, chewing through wires, and contaminating surfaces. They leave up to 80 droppings a day, found in cabinets, pantries, and garages. They even leave behind things you can’t see, such as urine: they dribble continuously, creating little scented highways that help them get back and forth to food, shelter, and safety.  

Pennsylvania wood roaches aren’t likely to invade your Fairfield kitchen the way other roaches do; a lone roach might find its way indoors, but they don’t reproduce effectively in homes or buildings and prefer the great outdoors, instead. Infestations are found in sheds, open garages, and firewood piles. They may also appear on decks, especially in summer, when the glow of LED bulbs lures roaches toward the light.

Ants are a highly intelligent collective that works together toward the common good. They enter properties drawn to messes, discarded crumbs, and spilled sugar. Once inside, they hide in cracks, under appliances, in floorboards, or in wall voids. If they feel threatened, they split into separate nests, collect themselves, and continue their arthropod antics.

Spiders are frequent trespassers into your homes and businesses. While often harmless (and even good pest controllers in their own right), they elicit fear in lots of people; arachnophobia is present in up to 15% of the population. Some of the most common New Jersey webmasters include black widows, cellar spiders (aka, daddy longlegs), wolf spiders, and yellow sac spiders. The latter frequently walk across ceilings at night as people sleep, peacefully, below.
